The Dalton School project involved a phased rooftop expansion of the existing private school at 108 East 89th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. With the school remaining occupied, H&L Ironworks’ work was carefully scheduled around the academic calendar, with major steel installation performed during the summers of 2017 and 2018.

During the first phase, H&L completed the installation of three new floors totaling approximately 14,000 square feet. The compressed summer schedule required the work to be completed before students returned for the new school year. Approximately 196 tons of structural steel were installed during the 2017 phase.

H&L returned in the summer of 2018 to install an additional 68 tons of structural steel within the interior floors and complete a substantial miscellaneous metals package. The scope included two egress stairs, relieving-angle support steel around the building perimeter on multiple floors, and additional miscellaneous steel throughout the school.
